The Golden Age of Dentistry?

I just returned from a thirteen day trip to Australia where I was the keynote speaker at Marketing Dentistry 2014, in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne, AU.

Since I had never addressed an Australian audience before, I really didn’t know what to expect from the other speakers, the venues, or the attendees.

What I encountered was a beautiful country, excellent presenters with cutting edge content, and over 400 gracious and hospitable dentists and their support staff.

Dentists practicing in Australia are facing new challenges, such as an increased supply of dental professionals and a proportional decreased demand for dental services.

This scenario has been reality in the United States dental market for years now but regardless of where you practice, the secret to thriving in a crowded marketplace is to develop a competitive advantage.

This can be accomplished by providing an unforgettable patient experience, by increasing the suite of dental services that you deliver to your patient base or by increasing your involvement in the community.

I’ve heard many pessimists say that the “Golden Age” of dentistry is gone forever.

This may be true… but if you recognize the huge shifts taking place in our profession, develop a solid plan for growth, and take massive action, you can separate yourself from the frustrated masses in a very short period of time.
